When we moved back to Philadelphia from New York, I was impressed with the lack of variety of private schools in the city, unlike NYC. I wanted a local place where the curiosity children are born with was nurtured, where they could develop at their own speed, where they could become responsible and caring lifelong learners. The Philadelphia School opened in 1972 with twelve kindergarten and first-grade children, including the first-borns of both founders. In the years since, it has become much more than I could have ever imagined, and now enrolls over 400 children from pre-school through 8th grade, including two of our grandchildren as well as one of the other founder.
