I make drawings and films and photographs about myself and the world around me. Often I appropriate stories, text, and images in order to explain my interactions and those around me. Sometimes I write things down in my handwriting or recreate things by others. Many times I have made work based on notes from my mother, Marie Campuzano. These notes can be very old notes from my childhood. In the spring of 2016, I was going through my things and found this Post-It note with “Thank You” written on it. It is not my mother’s handwriting; in fact I have no idea whose handwriting it is. I recently completed a drawing where i redrew this “Thank You” repeatedly and placed a photograph of this note in the center of the drawing. It is something to think about, this unknown thank you. It makes me smile.
