In the past four years I’ve made the drive up to Philadelphia to take in the city and do photographic work. I love this city for its sense of place, its architecture, street scenes and landscapes. I’m a painter and printmaker and use my personal images as reference for my work. I’m particularly drawn to abandoned and industrial places. Two of my favorites are the Eastern State Penitentiary and the Port of Philadelphia.
The Port of Philadelphia is part of personal on-going research and photographic documentation of Eastern Seaboard commercial waterways like those of Savannah, Richmond, and Baltimore. I love the beauty and evolution of these delta landscapes and am intrigued by the natural and man-made systems that I find there. From the photographs of the port industrial architecture I have created large-scale oil paintings and am working on a series of hand-pulled prints.
