Thirty year ago I moved to Philadelphia, and since that time have been making paintings, drawings and prints of various residential neighborhoods in Philadelphia. I like to select places between houses and backyards that are slivers of life and go unnoticed. Working with an abstract format using architecture and nature, I make complicated worlds using invented color and shapes. I make drawings in my car from direct observation: my private studio on the street. Relying on the information in the drawings and from memory, I develop large-scale paintings in my studio that invent color, light and space but still honor the initial site that inspired the painting. All of the locations are from day-to-day life, places that I connect to.
