My mother had a printer’s drawer that showcased all sorts of small trinkets, and when she passed away I found this Tastykake thimble in the display. Throughout grade school and high school Tastykakes were my regular luncheon treat. My favorite was (and still is) the Tandy Kake, a wonderful layering of peanut butter and cake coated with chocolate. Tastykake has been a Philadelphia institution since the 1920’s, with it’s first location in Germantown, followed by almost ninety years on Hunting Park Avenue, and then another relocation to the Navy Yard, so it seems fitting for the thimble to be included with this Philadelphia collection!
