Horn & Hardart automats were always a treat for me during my early childhood. I remember the walls of shiny brass knobs on glass doors that revealed all kinds of treats and meals, and the cashier providing the necessary change to put into the slots. The Horn & Hardart automats began to disappear in the mid-1970’s, taken over by Burger King. Every time I go down Broad Street to City Hall, I have fond memories of the pleasant times I had with my mother. I took this ashtray from the restaurant during my last visit before they closed.
