Gratitude-

Being an intern in the Mayor’s Internship Program in 2003 led me to pursue a career in public service.  After spending ten years as a City Council staffer, I now work for Mayor Kenney as his Director of Policy,  and my now-husband, a lawyer from India, is currently a Policy Fellow for City Council. We asked the Mayor if he would officiate our Indian wedding ceremony, and he graciously replied by saying: “What do you want me to wear?” We were married by Mayor Kenney on Earth Day, April 22, 2016.

The Mayor embraced our Indian culture and plant-based lifestyle wholeheartedly. He was honored to perform the ceremony, just as much as we were honored to have him to be ‘our guy.’  He wore traditional Indian attire, and officiated our unique ceremony by toasting to green juice!

The best part of all was how he ended our wedding, off script.  My husband is a huge Star Wars fan, and we have a Star Wars reference engraved on his wedding band.  At the end of the ceremony, after being pronounced husband and wife, the Mayor said, “And May the Force Be With You.” It was perfect.

These mini-thank-you-cards were a part of our wedding favors, and are a reminder of how thankful we are to our super-cool, kick ass Mayor.  Philadelphia IS the place to be!
