In 2008, I purchased a one-way flight from Minneapolis to Philadelphia. As the Center City skyline came into my view from the descending plane, I was overwhelmed with excitement and terror. I was over a thousand miles away from home and everything I knew, and I was alone. Graduate school was what brought me eastward to further refine my perception, experience, and definitions of community and identity. I didn’t know what this city would make of me, accept from me, or give to me, but what I found was permanency. I work, live, and create art in this city. This object, a little screen printed artist book, is the one remaining piece I created my first year residing in Philly.
